General Organization of Culture Palaces in Egypt invites all talented youth writers and researchers to participate in its central literary competition (Fouad Hegazy edition 2019-2020). 

Competition Categories:

  1. Novel.
  2. Short story collection.
  3. Poetry collection (classical Arabic).
  4. Poetry collection (Egyptian colloquial).
  5. Literary studies.
  6. Children's literature (Short story).

Entries Conditions:

  • Novel: No less than 70 pages A4 size.
  • Short story collection (Classical Arabic): Minimum of 15 short stories, in no less than 70 pages A4 size.
  • Poetry collection (classical Arabic): Minimum of 15 poems, in no less than 708 pages A4 size.
  • Poetry collection (Egyptian colloquial): Minimum of 15 poems, in no less than 708 pages A4 size.
  • Literary studies: On one of the following topics:
    • Time and place symbolism in Fouad Hegazy's novels.
    • History retrieving throughout Fouad Hegazy's stories.
    • Female character models in  in Fouad Hegazy's novels.
    • Documentation and war literature incidents in Fouad Hegazy's writings.
    • Resistance literature in  Fouad Hegazy's narrative creativity.
  • A literary study should be:
    • Written in classical Arabic.
    • Adheres to principles of research ethics.
    • No less than 100 pages A4 size.
    • The researcher must be under 40 years.
  • Children's literature (Short story): Addressing children in the age group 6-18 years, written in classical Arabic, no less than 15 short stories, and writer must be under 40 years.

Submissions in all sections need to be written in font size 14.

General Conditions:

  1. Entrants must be Egyptian nationals.
  2. Novel, short story, classical Arabic poetry, and Egyptian colloquial poetry writers must be 35 years or under.
  3. Entrants that won any prize in the last two editions of the competition aren't eligible.
  4. Submitted entries haven't won any prize before.
  5. Entries need to be grammatically and spelling revised.
  6. Entrants can't submit entries in more than one section.
  7. Submitted entries aren't returned.

Required Documents:

  1. Three computer-written copies of submitted work, with a soft copy on CD. Note that works with writer's name or info on aren't eligible.
  2. Competition application.
  3. An acknowledgment by the writer letter to certify that submitted work hasn't been presented to any other competition, or in print, and that he/she takes full responsibility in case of plagiarism.
  4. CV includes: Birth date and place, employer, phone number, E-mail, published works, publishing place and sate, and prizes.
  5. Photocopy of National ID.
  6. New headshot.

Prizes:

  1. The first placer gets 4000 EGP.
  2. The second placer gets 3000 EGP.
  3. The third placer gets 2000 EGP.
