Summer Internship Program in Thailand at the World Food Program 2020

General Information

The World Food Program (WFP) is offering a great internship opportunity as a PD Summer intern. The intern will be responsible for Preparing country and other thematic briefs on social protection and cash-based transfers in the Asia and Pacific region and Other duties as assigned. Throughout their assignment, WFP interns have access to an industry-leading learning platform, WeLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.


  1. Analyze and consolidate data for cash-based response and preparedness for the WFP Country Offices in the Asia and Pacific region, working closely with WFP country offices and relevant regional bureau functional units
  2. Develop an interactive map displaying the data in a user-friendly way to inform future operations, working with relevant counterparts in WFP to link to existing databases
  3. Prepare country and other thematic briefs on social protection and cash-based transfers in the Asia and Pacific region
  4. Develop a tracking tool for recommendations from oversight missions
  5. Other duties as assigned


  1. Currently enrolled in a master’s degree program OR a recent graduate of a master’s degree (graduated within the last 6 months)
  2. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook)
  3. Excellent English verbal and writing skills
  4. Knowledge of international development, socio-economic and social policy as well as familiarity with social protection and cash-based transfers; familiarity with the Asia and Pacific region is desirable.
  5. Experience in operational research and analysis, reporting, compiling information is desirable.
  6. Experience in using data visualization software (e.g. Tableau) and GIS mapping is desirable.
  7. Demonstrated interest in and capacity to deliver knowledge management and/or organizational learning
  8. Excellent team player with the ability to work in a diverse, multi-cultural team
  9. Working knowledge of English (proficiency/level C) is required.


At least 3 months

Learning Elements:

At the end of the assignment, the Intern should have:

  1. General understanding of WFP’s work in the Asia and the Pacific Region, as well as at the corporate level, on commitments to supporting governments to achieve zero hunger through social protection and cash-based transfer programming
  2. Very good understanding of programmatic analysis and the knowledge management for Social Protection, School Feeding (SF) and CBT at a regional level
  3. Good knowledge of the management of the electronic library system (of documentation on SF programs in the region)
  4. Development of drafting/presentation skills by having produced country and/or thematic briefs on Social Protection and CBT activities in the region and given a presentation to the team
  5. Good understanding of Oversight recommendations tracking tools

Terms and Conditions:

  1. The PD intern will be paid a monthly stipend of approximately USD 750 per month as a contribution to basic subsistence costs.
  2. WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas, and related costs.
  3. WFP will reimburse travel tickets for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
  4. WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognized institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
  5. Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
