UNICEF is offering a job opportunity as a Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH) Officer in Yemen. In the 1970s UNICEF established a presence in Yemen to respond to the urgent needs of children in the poorest country in the Middle East. In collaboration with local authorities, non-governmental organizations and community partners, UNICEF is working to respond to the needs of children to help them survive and grow to their full potential through the following programs: Health, Nutrition, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Basic Education, and Child protection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support health team to update plans, implement, monitor and evaluate MNH interventions including analyzing and evaluating data to ensure achievement of objectives and/or take corrective action when necessary to meet objectives including those of UNICEF’s emergency response in Yemen.
  • Develop a scale-up plane for CBMNC and assist teams at the governorate level in planning and organizing training programs for the scale-up of the CBMNC/ Community midwifery program.
  • Facilitate and provide technical support to ensure the quality of training and mentoring.
  • Facilitate the establishment of a mechanism for supportive supervision, monitoring and on the job mentoring for Community midwives and community-based health workers.
  • Coordinate with the Operation/Supply staff on supply assistance activities ensuring proper and timely of supplies for the CBMNC/ community midwifery program.
  • Participate in the development of a sectoral work plan to ensure an integrated approach with CBMNC for community-based health services.
  • Prepare project status reports required for management and to meet the reporting needs of the Health and Nutrition section for all relevant purposes.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in A medical doctor with a bachelor’s degree in public health, neonatology /Pediatrics or related technical field. A master's degree from recognized institutions in any of these relevant fields is considered an asset.
  • A minimum of 2 years of professional experience as a medical doctor With Newborn care /neonatology and public health experience.
  • Professional work experience in a program management function or a technical expert capacity in child survival & health care.
  • Experience of working in an Emergency at the national and/or international level is required, specifically in one or more operations management areas including budget; financial management and reporting; facilities management; administration; supply and logistics management; information and communication technology; human resources.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
