Max Planck Institute is offering a summer internship program for undergraduate students. The Program provides the opportunity for highly motivated undergraduate students to join one of the labs at the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology and the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry. The program will allow you to become familiar with different scientific approaches and laboratory methods. The aim of this internship program is to provide excellent students with a broad range of research experiences and knowledge to promote them early on in their careers.

  1. Highly motivated bachelor’s and master’s students in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Psychology and related fields can apply.
  2. Although there are no restrictions regarding the qualifications of a potential candidate, applications of highly qualified early-career candidates will be treated preferentially.

  1. This is a fully-funded internship program. Successful applicants will benefit from the following:
  2. Free student accommodation
  3. A stipend of approximately 800 Euro per month
  4. Reimbursement of travel costs to and from Martinsried
  5. During your internship, you will be a full member of the institutes with the ability to join numerous social activities such as lab parties, hikes, sports groups, PhD activities, the institutes’ summer parties, in-house lectures and much more.

Length and Timing:

The internship is a full-time immersion for up to ten weeks. It takes place between mid-June to end-September. Within this framework, the starting date and duration of the internship is determined by mutual agreement between the host lab and the student.

Selection Process:

  1. The program committee will evaluate and select students based on their grades, CV, letter of motivation and letter of reference. The committee will communicate the result of the selection to the applicants around the end of March.
  2. The number of internships is limited.
  3. Host labs will interview pre-selected students interested in working in their labs via Skype or other means.

About Max Planck:

The Max Planck Institute takes up new and innovative research areas that German universities are not in a position to accommodate or deal with adequately. These interdisciplinary research areas often do not fit into the university organization, or they require more funds for personnel and equipment than those available at universities. The variety of topics in the natural sciences and the humanities at Max Planck Institutes complement the work done at universities and other research facilities in important research fields.
