Die Junge Akademie invites all designers, filmmakers, and creators to participate in this year's annual competition on sustainability and climate change. The competition aims to change negative visions of the future and create a positive outlook based on a sustainable and inclusive lifestyle that will provide many opportunities not only in ecological and economic terms but also socially and culturally.

Competition Categories:

  • Visions Category: This category focuses on designs that offer creative artistic perspectives on a different and better world in which a sustainable lifestyle is achieved not only in the environmental and economic aspects but also on the social, cultural and aesthetic levels.

Selection Criteria in This Category:

  1. Creativity.
  2. Aesthetic Quality.
  3. Technical Implementation.
  • Solutions Category: This category focuses on providing solutions to sustainability-related problems – big or small. Ideas for these solutions may be your own or ideas that have already been implemented but are perhaps not yet comprehensive enough.

Selection Criteria in This Category:

  1. Conceptual Creativity.
  2. Practicability.
  3. Accessibility and Comprehensibility of the Concept.
  4. Sustainability of the Solution.

Prizes:

A total of three entries in each of the two categories will be awarded the following prize money:

  • 1st place: 2,000 Euros
  • 2nd place: 1,500 Euros
  • 3rd place: 1,000 Euros

Winners will be notified of their prize by email. Participants whose entries could not be considered for a prize will also be notified by us shortly afterward. The awards ceremony will take place in public as part of an event organized by Die Junge Akademie.

Participation Conditions:

  • There are no costs to enter the competition; entry is free.
  • Both individuals and teams can enter the competition. In the case of team entries, each team will appoint a main contact person in advance who will be responsible for the entry. The main contact person will also receive the prize money and will be responsible for any distribution of the money within the team.
  • Employees of Die Junge Akademie and UmweltBank are excluded from participation, as well as former and current members of Die Junge Akademie.
  • All entries must be submitted either in German or in English. Submissions in other languages cannot be considered.
  • Film or photo entries without explanatory spoken text, titles/subtitles, etc. or which are incomprehensible in themselves should be provided with a short description in German or English (between a minimum of 300 and a maximum of 1,000 words). The short description should make reference to the topic of the competition unless this is apparent from the submission itself.
  • The submissions must be designed in such a way that they can be viewed, played, etc. on standard computers (Windows, Mac).
  • All entries must be uploaded externally. A link to the uploaded content must be provided with the registration form.
  • Film and audio submissions may not be longer than 20 minutes. For images, photos, etc. an appropriate resolution must be used.
  • Text submissions may not exceed 20 pages in length (font size at least 11pt, page margins at least 2cm, line spacing at least 1.2).
  • Submissions should not contain any material which would give rise to civil liability or otherwise violate any law. Should this happen, the entry will be excluded from the competition without giving reasons. Legal steps will also be taken if necessary.

About Die Junge Akademie:

Die Junge Akademie was founded in 2000 in Germany as the world's first academy that brings together young artists and scientists in all scientific disciplines. It aims to explore the potential and limits of interdisciplinary work, develop scientific discourse and encourage initiatives that encourage interaction between science and society.
