Grants of CAD$10,000 for Graduate Students to do their Researches in Urban Landscape

UNESCO is offering grants for graduate students to conduct their researches in the urban landscape filed in Montreal, Canada. This grant is intended for international students from the scientific cooperation network of the UNESCO Chair in Urban Landscape of the University of Montreal and is to be used to conduct a 4-month (120 days) research project in Montreal, a member of the International Coalition of Inclusive and Sustainable Cities – ICCAR.

About the Project:

The project should address a theme or an issue related to the urban landscape and closely linked to the mission of the UNESCO Chair in Urban Landscape and the associated UNESCO programs.

  • Promote innovation and creation in the urban landscape (architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, urban planning) as well as intercultural and interdisciplinary dialogues;
  • Expand the knowledge of major urban issues (sustainable development, social and cultural inclusion, living conditions, well-being, identity, etc.) supported by UNESCO regarding the preservation, valorization, and development of cities;
  • Contribute to the development of strategic visions and creative planning solutions for cities;
  • Offer a unique research/action/creation experience on an international scale to one of the students of the UNESCO Chair in Urban Landscape’s scientific cooperation network.

Grant's Amount:

The recipient will receive the welcome grant in two (2) installments. The first, for CAD$ 2 500, once confirmed, and the second, for CAD$ 7 500, at the beginning of their four-month stay in Montreal.

Eligibility Criteria:

The candidate must be a full-time student registered in a graduate program at a university of the UNESCO Chair’s scientific cooperation network, here

Allocation Criteria:

  • The excellence of the academic record;
  • Quality of the urban landscape research/action/creation project:
  1.  Innovative and creative aspects of the theme and approach;
  2. Expected (or anticipated) structural effects responding to the urban issues supported by UNESCO.

The committee will pay particular attention to the relevance of the research/action/creation project to the mission of the UNESCO Chair in Urban Landscape of the University of Montreal (CUPUM) and to the expected results. At the end of their project, the grant recipient will have to present their research project to the public (conference and/or exhibit or cinematographic creation) in Montreal and at their home university.
