United Nations announces an internship opportunity in the video section. The position is located in the video section of the news and content branch, news and media division, department of global communication. The unit is seeking interns interested in gaining professional, hands-on experience with television and multimedia functions, specifically film, video, and social media projects. The internship is for a minimum of two months with a possibility for extension based on the needs of the office and availability of the candidate. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the chief of the section.

  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • English or French are the working languages of the united nations. For this internship, fluency in both English and French is required.
  • Monitor ongoing developments inside and outside the clients' environment to keep informed and anticipate problems. Identifies clients' needs and matches them to appropriate solutions. 
  • Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects. Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to a client.
  • To qualify for an internship with the United Nations New York headquarters internship program, department of public information, the following conditions must be met:
  1. Be enrolled in a graduate school program in journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, international relations or related field (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); OR
  2. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program in journalism, communication, media studies, film making, international relations or related field (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent); OR
  3. Have graduated with a university degree in journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, international relations or related field.

Your Responsibilities:

  • This opportunity is designed for an intern to work side by side with experienced information professionals. 
  • Interns will be trained to work with one or two producers or assistant producers in creating videos for various products including UN in action feature program, social media, and news videos, IGTV etc. 
  • Basic functions include assisting in scriptwriting, captioning videos in language and editing using the Abode Creative Suite (especially Premiere Pro). 
  • Interns may also be requested to perform other ad hoc duties including being trained to assist in studio recordings and assisting in the presentation of monthly metrics of video products.
