JRC Fuwaku Scholarship

SOAS University of London is offering PhD and Master Scholarship for international students to have the opportunity to study at University of London in the United Kingdom. There is one scholarship valued at £10,000.

Candidate Criteria:

  • Open to Home / EU / Overseas applicants
  • Applicants should include in their scholarship application details of their skills in Japanese. 
  • Whole Japanese language is not essential, it is desirable so it be helpful if the applicants' referees comment on their skills in Japanese in the areas of reading, composition and speaking, if applicable.
  • Please note that most scholarships do not cover funding or even allow for Pre-sessionals.

New Students admissions:

  • The research proposal must focus on Japan.
  • Applicants should provide evidence of this in the research proposal of their admission application.
  • Must have offer of admission to a degree programme at SOAS by the scholarships deadline - 20 March 2020.
  • Apply for the scholarship by 15:00 (UK local time) on 7 May 2020. You must apply for this scholarship via the on-line application form.
  • Must meet the English language condition of their offer of admission to study at SOAS as soon as possible but no later than 1 June 2020. 
  • If your offer is conditional on English, please arrange your English test and ensure you meet the English requirements as soon as possible.

Current students admission:

  • The research proposal must focus on Japan.
  • References must be provided -  The reference form can be downloaded from the top right hand corner of this page from 23 January 2020.
  • Apply for the scholarship by 15:00 (UK local time) on 7 May 2020. You must apply for this scholarship via the on-line application form.

Candidate Assessment:

  • MPhil candidates will be assessed on academic merit and the strength of their proposal.
  • PhD candidates will be assessed on academic merit, the results of their research during the previous year and proposal.

Notification of Results:

Successful candidates will be notified by the end of June. If you have not heard from us by the end of June, you should assume your application was unsuccessful.

Eligible programmes:

  • Any full-time MPhil/PhD Student (new admissions and current SOAS MPhil/PhD students) whose thesis topic focusses on any aspect of Japan.
  • Part-time programmes are not eligible.

Benefits:

There is one scholarship valued at £10,000.

  2. An explanation of the grading system for any degrees obtained outside of the UK
  3. Two references
  4. CV
  5. A personal statement
  6. A research proposal.
