The United Nations is offering a volunteer opportunity in the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). UNITAR is a dedicated training arm of the United Nations System, serving some 55,000 beneficiaries annually by conducting close to 500 training, learning and capacity development activities around the world. The Mission of UNITAR is to develop the individual, institutional and organizational capacities of countries and other United Nations stakeholders through high-quality learning solutions and related knowledge products and services to enhance decision making and to support country-level action for overcoming global challenges.

Tasks:

  • The task involves developing and implementing a set of outreach and advocacy activities with the final goal of bringing UN-provided professional education opportunities closer to beneficiaries – current and aspiring professionals in peace and security as well as peacebuilders and humanitarian workers.
  • Each volunteer will be asked to identify accessibly and the most appropriate outreach channels (focused social media pages and groups, blogs, platforms, etc), prepare messages (posts, letters) and deliver them directly or suggest addresses and/or institutions to be contacted by UNITAR.
  • Six volunteers are needed – each responsible for their geographical region (Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, Northern America, Oceania) to enable adapted and targeted advocacy.
  • Sufficient support will be provided regarding outreach tools such as visuals, information materials, and key messages.

Objectives:

  • The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is a training arm of the UN system with a mandate related to building capacities for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through outcome-based training and learning initiatives.
  • The Division for Peace strives to support the (re-)establishment of peaceful, just and inclusive societies by enabling individuals, institutions and organizations to contribute meaningfully to sustainable peace.
  • UNITAR Peace team, together with its academic and field partners, develops and delivers a wide range of education products and services such as open online courses, advanced facilitated courses and academic programs, most of which are based on the online mode of delivery to meet the needs of working professionals.
  • The team currently seeks to broaden its outreach and ensure that the information about the available professional development programs reaches those interested/in need.

Requirements:

  • Background in peace, security and humanitarian field.
  • Connection to related professional and civil society networks.
  • Knowledge of the peace and security landscape of the region, including key actors.
  • Experience in the field of outreach, advocacy, public relations – in education and/or humanitarian area is a plus.

Conditions:

  • By registering you accept that you do not make any financial claims to organizations or to UNV.
  • You could check the Terms of Use for more about standards of conduct and the conditions for using this platform.

About UN Volunteer:

The United Nations Volunteers program is a United Nations organization that contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. Volunteerism is a powerful means of engaging people in tackling development challenges, and it can transform the pace and nature of development.  UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for recognition of volunteers, working with partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing an increasing number and diversity of volunteers, including experienced UN Volunteers, throughout the world. UNV embraces volunteerism as universal and inclusive and recognizes volunteerism in its diversity as well as the values that sustain it: free will, commitment, engagement, and solidarity.
