Organisation à but non lucratif, Parcourir ses opportunités similaires
While many creatives have the privilege of not needing to leave the confines of their home to cultivate their talent, filmmakers have reached something of a standstill because of the corona-induced lockdown. Revart, New Giza University’s artsy student organization, now offers a super creative and innovative outlet for filmmakers with their homemade vertical film festival.
“Verticals films are more accessible for everyone to make, and they’re also easier to view,” said fourth-year NGU Medical Student and founder of the festival, Daved Rezk. “It was very important to us to maintain a theme of self-quarantine, and give filmmakers the opportunity to create films out of and based on their current situation.”
The submitted films must be filmed at home, must be less than 3 minutes long and the film aspect ratio has to be vertical (16:9). The yet-to-be-announced judging panel will then choose 15 of the entries to upload onto the Revart Facebook and Instagram accounts, before reaching a final decision on the first, second and third-placed films. There will also be an audience award that will be voted for by the public, with all awards coming with monetary prizes.
In the spirit of self-distancing, you can only catch the films online on IGTV and Facebook accounts once the selections and winners have been chosen. Soon, they will also be posting live mini-masterclasses with local filmmakers on Instagram.
Revart promotes filmmaking during self-quarantine with its vertical online film festival, the first of its kind in Egypt.
