 The United Nations (UN) is looking for an enthusiastic Economic Affairs intern to join the team in Beirut, Lebanon for 2021. The duration of the internship is normally two months on a full-time basis - this may be exceptionally extended for a maximum period of six months. The internship certificate is awarded on the recommendation of the supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conducts research and reference searches on issues relating to economic governance, economic development, institution-building, political economy and general areas of work.
  2. Compiles, processes and works with socioeconomic databases derived from a variety of sources.
  3. Supports drafting of inputs to presentations, project documents and research papers as well as supports the organization of meetings.
  4. Surveys and prepares reports on the economic and social policy environment in the region.
  5. Performs other duties assigned.

  5. Proficient in MS office applications and analytical software (e.g. STATA).

Education:

  1. Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  2. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
  3. Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.
  4. Be computer literate, especially in Word and Excel. 
  5. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  6. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Languages:

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. this post, fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is required.
