The One World Scholarship Programme is meant to support students from Africa, Asia and Latin America who are interested in development issues and who have come to Austria on their own initiative in order to complete their education. The scholarship will contribute to exercise the right to education for those critical and intellectual young people who encounter poor conditions in their home countries (this applies strongly to women).

Many alumni initiate their own development projects, others work for international organisations or teach at universities in their countries of origin; thus, contributing to a valuable transfer of knowledge. Alumni help building bridges between Austria and their home countries.

Requirements:

Note: priority is given to female students.
Prospective awardees are expected to show a strong interest in development related issues, which is supposed to be reflected in the choice of study fields, prior work experience, voluntary activities. For applicants there are various fields of specialisation that should give a general idea of relevant topics for successful application (however, this list is not exclusive),  for example, specialising in the field of poverty reduction, social justice, global migrations, gender equality, climate change, sustainable use of resources, food security, renewable energies, environmental protection, sustainable tourism, urbanisation, health, human rights, democratisation, good governance, fighting corruption, conflict prevention and resolution, international relations, intercultural dialogue.

This scholarship was created to serve students who would have difficulties with successfully finishing their studies without financial support. The One World Scholarship Programme supports Master and PhD students at public universities or universities of applied sciences in the regions of Salzburg and Tyrol with a partial scholarship. Students at Master level receive 500 EUR per month, at PhD level 550 EUR during the semester (click here for full list of universities as well as a list of accommodations and scholarships for students). The integral parts of the OWS are their scholarship programmes and special study expenses, extracurricular training, and also follow-up contacts.

All applicants will be notified shortly after the committee has made their decision in mid August.
