In short, the foundation wants to make the strongest possible case and provide the greatest possible support for the best students to become the best future teachers.

Focus

Jakes Gerwel Fellowship is an aspirational fellowship that identifies high potential students who, through financial support, high-quality teacher education, and professional induction, become expert teachers, educational leaders, and social entrepreneurs who will lead system change to achieve quality education for all learners.

Through an aspirational Educational Fellowship pipeline that focuses on academic, leadership, and teaching excellence, JGF empowers passionate teachers with the subject matter expertise and pedagogical content knowledge to become expert teachers, while effective communities of practice amplify their educational leadership ability to mobilize broader systemic change.
