The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation is offering a competition to motivate non-American novice writers under the age of 30, and offer them the recognition and encouragement that might lead to a successful career in television scriptwriting. Entrants are asked to create a completed half-hour to one-hour English-language television drama script. The award winner receives $2,500, a trip to New York City, and an invitation to the International Emmy® Awards Gala in November.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. The Applicant must be a non-U.S. citizen (non-U.S. citizens currently studying in the U.S. are eligible.)
  2. The Applicant must not have reached his/her 30th birthday as of December 31, 2020.
  3. The Applicant must be a minimum of 18 years of age upon completion of entry form.
  4. The Applicant cannot be an Employee or a relative of a staff member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences 
  5. The Applicant must deliver an original completed DRAMA script for television (Drama Series: A dramatic production in which theme, storyline, and main characters are presented under the same title.) 
  6. The script must be submitted in English. 
  7. The script must be a minimum of a half-hour and a maximum of one-hour commercial length. 
  8. The script should be a stand-alone or pilot script, not a random episode that is part of a series. 
  9. Entries must be original work of the participant.
  10. All Applicants must complete the entry and release forms to be eligible.
  11. Only one entry per scriptwriter will be accepted. 
  12. Previous winners of this award or any award/fellowship given by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation are not eligible. 
  13. There is no entry fee to submit a script into the competition. 

Award:

The award winner receives $2,500, a trip to New York City, and an invitation to the International Emmy® Awards Gala in November.

 Judging of Entries:

  •  The judges’ decisions will be based on the original story; characters and how they are developed; creativity; and knowledge of craft. The decision of the judges is final. 
  • The winner will be selected by a blue-ribbon panel of jurors, from among the finalists.

TimeLine:

  • Competition Opens:  April 22, 2020
  • Competition Closes:  July 1, 2020 at 12 noon (EST)
  • Winner Announcement:  September 2020
  • Awards Ceremony: November 21, 2020 at the
