IRC announces a job opportunity in Iraq to work as a child protection caseworker. Under the guidance of the Child Protection (CP) manager, the child protection senior case management officer, and the senior social worker, the child protection social worker will identify, document, and manage cases of unaccompanied and separated children, as well as other vulnerable children in Anbar governorate, providing timely and quality support to children and their families. In support of this activity, the child protection case worker, with the support of the child protection senior case management officer, will coordinate with relevant child protection actors and service providers, child protection committees, and members of the IDP communities to support individual cases and, where appropriate, arranging and supporting care. 


You must have:

  • Prior professional experience in a similar post.
  • Previous work experience with children.
  • Bachelor degree.
  • Arabic language skills and it's preferred to have English language skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a rapidly changing professional environment with a view towards establishing administrative procedures and protocol that will ensure optimal functioning of the operation.
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain the highest degree of discretion.

If you are a national of the country in which this position is based and are currently located outside of your home country and possess over two years of international work experience, IRC has introduced an attractive remuneration package. Your Responsibilities:

You will be responsible of:

  1. Assess protection issues, develop, and implement case plans with unaccompanied and separated children and other vulnerable children including full documentation and follow up, psychosocial care and referral.
  2. Work with the senior social worker to create effective work plans and monitoring tools for case management activities.
  3. Liaise with relevant child protection agencies and other stakeholders such as the child protection sub working on the issue of unaccompanied and separated children and other child protection issues.
  4. Advocate with service providers on behalf of children and their families to access support and services.
  5. Monitor and document work using the child protection information management system in support of high quality child protection reporting. Submit weekly reports to the child protection senior case management officer and/or senior social worker.
  6. Work with children and agencies to take follow up action based on recommendations made by the best interest determination panel.
  7. Collaborate with the child protection senior case management officer to ensure that supplies are available for child protection activities in a timely manner and resources are available to support events, training, workshops conducted by outside consultants/experts.
  8. Provide continuous feedback to the child protection manager, senior social worker senior officer on any challenges in the work implementation to be addressed directly with corrective steps/measures if needed.
  9. Ensure case management database is regularly updated and submitted to the senior officer and senior social worker on a bi-weekly basis.
  10. Provide regular inputs for monitoring and reporting purposes.
  11. Collaborate with the senior social worker to facilitate regular one-on-one meetings, observation of sessions and case reviews.
  12. Liaise with senior social worker and child protection manager to ensure technical oversight and support is received.
  13. Ensure compliance with IRC policies and protocols of confidentiality, respect and safety.
  14. Perform other duties, as needed or requested by the supervisor.
