The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is looking for a Workforce Development Specialist to join the team and work in New York, the United States for 2020. 

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Provide classroom instruction for Healthcare Administrative Professionals Initiative, aimed at preparing 30 low-income English Language learners with skills required to work in healthcare administration. Includes 12 hours of instruction per week for 20 weeks. 
  2. Develop and refine advanced work readiness curriculum in collaboration with agency staff.
  3. Conduct pre-enrollment assessments with clients, create career development plans detailing a client’s long-term career goals and a step-by-step plan for its achievement, and provide ongoing case management.
  4. Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files documenting client goals, activities, and services.
  5. Document services provided and client outcomes in relevant case management databases.
  6. Provide one-on-one assistance to help clients prepare their resumes, look for appropriate job opportunities, and practice interview skills.
  7. Develop and locate appropriate employment opportunities for clients.
  8. Identify and engage local agencies for participant referrals and maintain relationship with training partner to assess progress of training participants.
  9. Conduct primary outreach for client enrollment into Career Development programming.
  10. Work closely with IRC employment specialists, case managers and financial education staff members to integrate career development activities within existing services.
  11. Support the colleagues in tracking quantifiable measurements to assess project effectiveness.
  12. Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. At least two years of related professional experience in workforce development.
  2. Experience in developing curriculum and instructing coursework for English Language Learners.
  3. Experience in a non-profit setting and prior experience working in employment services a plus.
  4. Experience working in a diverse, and non-traditional setting with diverse client base.
  5. Knowledge of healthcare and/or healthcare administration preferred.
  6. Self- starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an overall ability to be clear and concise in all communications.
  8. Exceptional organizational skills with proven attention to detail.
  9. Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  10. Proven ability to contribute both independently and as a key team member.
  11. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  12. Ability to travel regularly throughout New York City.
  13. Fluent in English, both spoken and written; bilingual ability required, preferably in Spanish, French, Arabic, Dari/Farsi and/or Pashto.

  2. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  3. Ability to manage and work through change in a proactive and positive manner.
