IDEA is a joint project between the Department of Economics at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Institut d'Anàlisi Econòmica. Our graduate program includes a Master’s degree in Economics as well as a PhD.
The Master’s Program has a two-year structure (120 ECTS), conforming to the Bologna Declaration directives. The Program provides students with a solid training in Economics that emphasizes rigorous analytical thinking and advanced quantitative and computational methods.
The PhD Program is jointly organized with the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics. After the completion of the Master's Program, students can request admission into the PhD Program to pursue research in their field of study. Our PhD students enjoy active interaction between students and faculty and a stimulating research environment with regular seminars and internal workshops. The PhD Program is part of the European Network ENTER.
Faculty members are internationally-recognized researchers with an outstanding record of publications in top international journals.
Our Master's and PhD students acquire a rigorous set of tools that make them competitive in the job market, taking on careers in academia, the private sector, and governmental and non-governmental institutions.
The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Institut d'Anàlisi Econòmica are both members of the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics. Membership in the Barcelona GSE brings many advantages: it hosts regular joint events where leading researchers both from Barcelona and around the world present their work, and it facilitates research collaboration among its members.
Degrees from IDEA are awarded by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The language of instruction is English.

The first year includes core courses that provide a solid grounding in the discipline of economics, emphasizing rigorous analytical thinking and advanced quantitative methods. The second year offers field courses in a variety of areas, including applied economics, labor economics, public economics, econometrics, finance, and macroeconomics.
