UNRWA is looking for highly committed professionals wishing to make a change. UNRWA regularly requires technical experts and managers with international experience to perform specific professional level assignments related to projects and emergencies. For this purpose UNRWA invites interested persons to register for inclusion in its legal services experts. The agency is particularly interested in experts in administrative law, contracts and commercial law, employment law, humanitarian and/or human rights law, international law, and the rule of law.

Eligibility:

  • UNRWA staff are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity, neutrality and impartiality at all times. This includes respect for and commitment to human rights, diversity, and non-violent means of dealing with all kinds of conflict.
  • Only persons who fully and unconditionally commit to these values should consider applying for UNRWA jobs.
  • UNRWA is a non-smoking work environment.
  • On appointment, all individuals will be asked to sign a self attestation, confirming that they have not committed, been convicted of, or prosecuted for, any criminal offence and that they have not been involved, by act or omission, in the commission of any violation of international human rights law or international humanitarian law.
  • Successful roster applicants should have several years of broad international experience in their field of work, as well as solid academic qualifications from accredited universities and academic bodies and very good credentials from past employers.
  • Assignments can be at UNRWA headquarters or one of its areas of operation (Amman, Damascus, Beirut, Jerusalem, Gaza).

About UNRWA:

Following the 1948 Arab-Palestinei conflict, UNRWA was established by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 302 (IV) of 8 December 1949 to carry out direct relief and works programs for Palestine refugees. The Agency began operations on 1 May 1950. In the absence of a solution to the Palestine refugee problem, the General Assembly has repeatedly renewed UNRWA's mandate, most recently extending it until 30 June 2020. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions from the UN Member States. UNRWA also receives some funding from the Regular Budget of the United Nations, which is used mostly for international staffing costs. The Agency’s services encompass education, health care, relief, and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance and emergency assistance, including in times of armed conflict.
