The International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) offers Three Months Fellowships that will be served at teaching institutes in India or in Iran and is sponsored by the Children's Eye Cancer Foundation. The fellowship opportunity is open to any qualified candidates who are interested in gaining skills and experience in Retinoblastoma diagnosis and therapy. The ICO Three-Month Fellowships help promising young ophthalmologists from low-resource countries to improve their practical skills and broaden their perspectives of ophthalmology. Fellows are expected to bring the acquired knowledge and skills back to their home country and take part in programs to preserve and restore vision.
The fellowship award is US$6000 (maximum) to help cover living expenses and return travel. The exact amount is subject to actual student-style living expenses in the host country.
Approximately 4-6 ICO Three-Month Fellowships for Diagnosis and Therapy of Retinoblastoma are awarded each year.
The International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) represents and serves professional associations of ophthalmologists throughout the world. ICO works with ophthalmologic societies and others to enhance ophthalmic education and improve access to the highest quality eye care in order to preserve and restore vision for the people of the world. The roots of the ICO date back to 1857 when 150 ophthalmologists from 24 countries convened in Brussels for the first World Ophthalmology Congress. Participants in the Congress founded the ICO in 1927 in Scheveningen, Holland.
