The University of Queensland in Australia is offering the Dr. Penelope Wensley AC Scholarshipsfor athletes who are enrolled in the university or who plan to enroll in it. This scholarship was established in 2020 with the aim of encouraging and supporting students with financial need that are competing at an Elite Level in a Recognized Sport. Since 1990, UQ – in partnership with UQ Sport and valued supporters – has proudly been offering sporting scholarships and athlete support programs to assist exceptional athletes to balance their studies with the demands of the elite-level sport.

Eligibility Criteria:

You are eligible for the scholarship if you:

can demonstrate financial need; and
are a new or continuing student who is, or intends to be, enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program.

Scholarship Value:

The scholarship amount is $ 4,500

Terms and Conditions:

The recipient may hold the Scholarship for up to one year, subject to the recipient:

maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress;
maintaining enrolment as a full-time student or as a part-time student where approved by the committee;
continuing to perform in their sport at an Elite Level as evidenced by a report on their sporting accomplishments each semester submitted to the CEO, UQ Sport.

Note: A recipient who fails to meet the requirements must show cause to the Chair of the selection committee why the scholarship should not be canceled.

Selection Criteria:

Demonstrated financial need;
Sporting achievements to date;
Potential to perform in their chosen sport at an Elite Level; and
Any other information that the selection committee considers relevant to the applicant’s future success in their studies.

Interruption of Scholarship:

Recipients may apply to interrupt their Scholarship for a maximum of two semesters during the tenure of their Scholarship in exceptional circumstances as considered relevant by the committee.

Deferring scholarships:

Recipients who have been granted approval to defer their tertiary place may seek approval to defer their Scholarship for up to one year. Where approval to defer a Scholarship has been granted, the recipient must maintain a commitment to their chosen sport during the period of deferment.
