The Cologne Graduate School of Ageing Research offers PhD Scholarships for outstanding university graduates holding Master degree and wishing to work towards a PhD in the fields of ageing and age-related diseases to become part of the vibrant and international research scene in the Cologne/Bonn area. Cologne School provides an international research environment, characterized by outstanding ageing research, excellent supervision, early independence in research and state-of-the-art facilities.
Cologne School’s international and interdisciplinary faculty offers positions in the areas of cell or molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, bioinformatics, bioengineering, pharmacology, neuroscience medical biology, translated medicine or related fields.So you have to hold a degree in one of the previous fields.
Cologne School invites applicants with a Master's or equivalent degree of the above mentioned or related fields.
Applicants with a degree in medicine are equally welcome to apply provided they have sufficient relevant research experience.
Furthermore, candidates require excellent written and spoken English skills (C1 level).
If the PhD project should not be finished within 3 years, the respective PI will finance the student for at least one additional year under the same conditions.
Your application will also be accepted if the Master's degree has not yet been awarded by the time of application. However, it must be awarded before your individual start of your PhD projects between July and October. If you should receive the degree after having submitted the application form, please send it to cga-coordination@uni-koeln.de.
Candidates are selected based on their academic qualifications and research accomplishments. Up to 30 candidates will be invited to an on-site recruitment week in March 2021.
Selected candidates can start their PhD position between July and October 2021. All accepted students will be enrolled through the University of Cologne.
The CGA Coordination offers support in all personal and administrative matters including visa, residence permits, housing, opening of bank accounts, insurances, contracts and all issues related to your PhD.
Payment is based on the German TVL-13 scale, 65% (monthly gross salary approx. €2,600 in the first year).
You will take part in a structured curriculum, including lecture series, journal clubs, retreats and intensive and exclusive training in scientific and soft skills as well as a personalised career mentoring programme.
Furthermore, you will have access to a yearly travel grant of €1,000 for conferences.
You will develop skills outside of official modules such as event organisation including practice in fundraising and inviting as well as interacting with internationally renowned guest speakers.
The Cologne Graduate School of Ageing Research (CGA) in Germany is a joint venture of the University of Excellence Cluster on Stress Responses in Aging-Associated Diseases (CECAD), the University Hospital Cologne, the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing and the Max Planck Institute for Metabolism Research. The CGA offers comprehensive Ph.D. training in the interdisciplinary field of ageing research at the most prestigious ageing research hub in Europe, Germany. The three-year programme provides outstanding research conditions with intensive supervision and state-of-the-art facilities in an international environment.
