The Historic New Orleans Collection (THNOC) invites scholarly research on the history and culture of Louisiana and the Gulf South to be part of the Dianne Woest Fellowship in the Arts and Humanities 2020. While the Historic New Orleans Collection resources should play a central role in the proposed agenda, fellows are also encouraged to explore other research facilities in the Greater New Orleans area. The Historic New Orleans Collection gratefully acknowledges the generosity of Dianne Audrey Woest (1935–2003), a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University, former president of the New Orleans Council for International Visitors, and true friend of the arts.

Eligibility Criteria:

The fellowship is open to doctoral candidates, academic and museum professionals, and independent scholars
U.S. citizenship is not required, but applicants should be fluent in English
Fellows will be expected to acknowledge THNOC in any published work drawing on fellowship research
Applicants are considered without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, disability, or any other protected status
Applicants need to submit a research proposal, in which they outline the scope of the project, discuss the relevance of research materials at The Historic New Orleans Collection, and discuss the anticipated product of their research (book, dissertation, exhibition, etc.)
Fellows may select their period(s) of residence, but all research must commence and conclude during the specified fellowship term (April 1, 2020–March 31, 2021)
Recipients will be announced on 1 February 2020

About

The Historic New Orleans Collection (THNOC) is a museum, research center, and publisher dedicated to preserving the history and culture of New Orleans and the Gulf South. The museum’s four exhibition spaces are free of charge and present multicultural stories of the region, from permanent displays exploring the development of Louisiana to rotating exhibitions showcasing the history and fine art. Through tours, visitors can learn about the architectural styles of the city’s oldest neighborhood, the Vieux Carré, and enter the private residence of THNOC’s founders, General L. Kemper, and Leila Williams.
