The Ifva Award which founded by the Hong Kong Arts Centre invites all those interested in film production to apply for 2020 edition, which will be held between 26 Feb - 7 March 2020.

Festival Objectives:

  • To encourage creativity, aesthetics, and innovation in the artistic environment.
  • To encourage cross-fertilization of creativity, knowledge, and experience on media creation among different regions in Asia.

Categories:

  • Short films - Asian New Force Category.
  • Animation.

Funding:

Finalists receive partially subsidized roundtrip flight tickets and accommodation during the festival.

Prizes: 

  • Gold Award.
  • Silver Award.
  • Special Mention.
  • Cash prizes.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Entrants have no age restriction.
  • Individual details of each person participating in the group status must be provided and half of the group members must be nationals or permanent residents of eligible Asian countries except for Hong Kong permanent residents.
  • Entries must be produced on after 1 October 2018. Works that have been updated after the said date are also eligible.
  • There is no restriction on the number of works that may be submitted.
  • Works that have been showcased, entered, or have won prizes in other contests may also be entered.
  • All entries from Hong Kong and Asia will be assessed together.

Other Rules:

  • The Entrant must be the sole and exclusive owner of the copyright in the Entry.
  • If Entrant participates in works owned by someone else, he must send a letter of authorization from the copyright holder.
  • The Entrant should only use a third party’s music excerpts or video segments in the Entry with the prior written consent of the relevant third party.
  • The Entrant may determine the entry category and shall be responsible for the decision. The Organizer can advise the suitability of the selected entry category.
  • A participant cannot withdraw after submitting his / her Entries for any reason except with the written consent of the organizer. The organizer may take any legal action against the withdrawing party.
  • The Organizer has the right to present/screen any Entry which has been awarded and/or shortlisted as Finalists during the time of Festival (February to March 2020).
  • In the event that an Entry is awarded and/or shortlisted, the Organizer shall have the right to use no more than 3 minutes footage or 10% of the total running time of the Entry for promotional purposes.
  • The DVD screener will not be returned.
  • Unless an Entrant objects in writing, the Organizer has the perpetual right to keep one copy of each winning Entry for educational, archival and research purposes.

ifva, formerly the Hong Kong Independent Short Film and Video Awards, was founded by the Hong Kong Arts Centre in 1995. Over the years, ifva has established itself as Asia’s pioneering force in short film, animation and media arts, by providing a unique and professional platform which promote different visual cultures while exploring the boundless potential of creative media.
