Edith Cowan University (ECU) offers a Higher Degree by Research Scholarship to the postgraduate students of outstanding research promise to help them undertake a higher degree by research. The scholarship is offered on the basis of academic merit and research performance. The scholarship includes a stipend of $28,420 per annum to be paid fortnightly via electronic funds transfer and tuition fee sponsorship.

Eligibility:

To be eligible, applicants must have met the minimum requirement below:

  1. Applicants must have a course application.
  2. Applicants must not be receiving income from another source to support general living costs while undertaking their course of study if that income is greater than 75% of the RTP stipend rate.
  3. Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time and on-campus student upon commencement of scholarship or, in exceptional circumstances, may apply for and be granted approval for a part-time scholarship in line with criteria in Part-Time Scholarship Holders.
  4. Applicants must have been made an unconditional offer of a place in an ECU higher degree by research course.
  5. If applicants have submitted an application for course entry and have not yet been issued an offer, or they are currently enrolled in a Bachelor Honours Degree, a Master's Degree or Integrated PhD they can apply for this scholarship and their application will be assessed conditional on achieving the minimum requirements.

Applicants are not eligible to apply for this scholarship if any of the below apply:

  1. Applicants have completed an Australian Research Doctorate Degree or equivalent.
  2. Applicants have completed a Master by Research or equivalent.
  3. Applicants have been in receipt of an Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) or an Australia Award scholarship within the last two years.

Benefits:

The scholarship includes a stipend of $28,420 per annum to be paid fortnightly via electronic funds transfer and tuition fee sponsorship.

Scholarship Duration:

 The duration of the scholarship will vary depending on the duration of the course, up to two years for a Master by Research and up to 3 years for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Integrated PhD.

Termination Conditions:

A scholarship will be terminated:

  1. On submission of the thesis for examination.
  2. If the scholarship holder ceases to meet the eligibility criteria specified in these Scholarship Conditions, other than during a period in which the scholarship has been suspended or during a period of approved leave.
  3. When the scholarship holder ceases to be a full-time student and approval has not been obtained to hold the scholarship on a part-time basis.
  4. In death, incapacity or withdrawal of the student.
  5. If the scholarship holder does not resume study at the conclusion of a period of suspension or does not make arrangements to extend the period of suspension.
  6. If the scholarship holder accepts another equivalent award, scholarship or salary to undertake their research degree providing more than 75% of the base RTP stipend rate and does not comply with the requirements outlined in Additional Funding.
  7. Once the maximum duration of the scholarship tenure has been reached.
  8. If the University determines that:
    • The course of study is not being carried out competently and diligently or in accordance with the offer of the scholarship.
    • The scholarship holder has failed to maintain Satisfactory Progress and to meet the required conditions outlined in their progress contract.
    • The scholarship holder has committed serious academic misconduct, including, but not limited to the provision of false or misleading information.
