The University of Melbourne presents Humanitarian Access Scholarship for talented undergraduate or graduate students, who have applied for asylum in Australia. Only four students will be awarded this scholarship.

Eligibility:

  • As for Undergraduate Applicants:
    1. Applying for or be the holder of an Australian temporary protection (or asylum) visa.
    2. completing Australian Year 12 or International Baccalaureate in Australia.
    3. Satisfying the course prerequisites and achieving at least the minimum ATAR score for the University of Melbourne course.
    4. Applying for a University of Melbourne undergraduate course via VTAC for commencement in the year following completion of Australian Year 12 or International Baccalaureate.
    5. No prior tertiary studies.
  • As for Graduate Applicants:
  1. Applying for or be the holder of an Australian temporary protection (or asylum) visa.
  2. Satisfying the course prerequisites and have achieved at least the minimum entry score for the University of Melbourne course.
  3. Applying for a University of Melbourne Master or PhD degree by coursework.
  • Note that:
  1. Applicant must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree by coursework at the University of Melbourne, as an international student. If a student is granted an Australian permanent visa, the scholarship will cease and may be considered for a Commonwealth Support Place (CSP) subject to availability. 
  2. The scholarship can be deferred to the following year if there are compassionate or compelling circumstances that prevent a student from commencing their courses in the year for which the scholarship was offered.

Selection Criteria:

This scholarship is offered to the students with the highest entry score, where there are more candidates than scholarships available or more than one candidate with a preference for the same degree course.

Funding:

  1. A living allowance of $5,000 per year (paid in two installments in April and September) for up to the standard full-time duration of the course.
  2. Full fee remission for the normal full-time duration of a degree course.

Required Documents:

  1. Evidence of the applicant's current visa status.
  2. A brief statement on how the scholarship will benefit the applicant.
