The International Rescue Committee (IRC) offers a full-time job opportunity as a Nurse/Vaccinator in Yemen for 2020. The vaccinator/nurse will work under the mentorship of the Health Officer. She/he will be responsible for the provision of Nursing and vaccination activities and provision of adequate information to the clients; maintaining the cold chain; EPI registers, and tally sheets. The vaccinator will work closely with the team to ensure community sensitization to achieve high immunization coverage and reduce default rates.

Responsibilities:

  1. Vaccinate children < 1yr, pregnant women and women of childbearing age against the vaccine-preventable diseases according to the MoPHP, UNICEF and WHO EPI schedule.
  2. Coordinate with the community health officer to ensure the information on the dates of the vaccination sessions is disseminated to the target communities.
  3. Maintain recommended aseptic techniques during the vaccination and dressing: practice safe injection procedure and dispose of syringes, vials and other wastes safely in a safety box and rubbish bin.
  4. Organize the immunization session in a manner that minimizes waste opportunities.
  5. Provide the caregivers, clients with information related to the EPI schedule, subsequent doses, and sessions and the potential side effects.
  6. Prepare and submit daily weekly and monthly reports and share them with the MoPHP and IRC.
  7. Ensure EPI registers and records are kept up to date.
  8. Prepare the list of defaulters and put in place a system for default tracing
  9. Keep the vaccines at the optimum temperature recommended by MoPHP/WHO guidelines.
  10. Undertake any other assignment given by the supervisor.

Requirements (Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities):

  1. Technical Diploma in the Medical field (Nursing/Medical Assistant diploma is preferred)
  2. Minimum two years professional experience in EPI program.
  3. NGO experience in IDP/transitional settings preferred.
  4. Personal qualities: Works well in a team and promotes teamwork, comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure well.
  5. Computer and English language skills are desirable.
  6. Ability to work after office hours to achieve assigned tasks as per need & priority.
