Paid Internship Opportunity in Sudan at WFP of the united Nations

World Food Program WFP is offering an internship opportunity, as it's currently seeking to fill for candidates to participate in the PD Summer Internship Program 2020 in the Policy and Program Department (PD). The position will be based in the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, Khartoum, Sudan. 

Duration:

The internship will be typically for the period of at least 3 months from May/June to August/ September 2020.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Currently enrolled in a master’s degree OR a recent graduate of a master’s degree (graduated within the last 6 months). WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognized institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
  2. Excellent English verbal and writing skills, Arabic is desirable.
  3. Proficiency in MS Office, especially in Excel spreadsheets and Word documents.
  4. Desirable: any data visualization software such as Tableau, Power BI.
  5. Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.

Internship Duties:

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Monitoring and Evaluation, the PD Summer Intern will perform the following duties:

  1. Provide inputs to the development of Monitoring, Review and Evaluation plans that will provide the most relevant and strategic information toward achieving results.
  2. Contribute to evidence-based decision-making on program design and implementation, notably through making monitoring, review and evaluation findings accessible, developing innovative and user-friendly products.
  3. Contribute to building the M&E capacity of WFP staff and partners through training and information sharing.
  4. Support in addressing recommendations from monitoring, reviews, and evaluations to ensure that follow-up actions are taken as required.
  5. Take responsibility for integrating protection and gender perspectives in all areas of work, to ensure equal participation of women and men.
  6. Support line manager in ensuring that CO monitoring systems and tools are in place and compliant with corporate standards including the minimum monitoring requirements (MMR), standard operational procedures (SOP) and establishment of baselines and targets in alignment with the updated corporate results framework (CRF).
  7. Draft regular monitoring reports on the status of results and implementation progress and contributes to the data analysis.

At the end of the assignment, the Intern should have:

  1. General understanding of WFP overall operations.
  2. A good overview of what is M&E in a big organization and how tasks are divided.
  3. Good understanding of the importance and relevancy of monitoring findings and why it is essential to follow up on them.
  4. Familiarization with the technical tools used in the team for questionnaire designing, data collection, and reporting.

  1. Under the direct supervision of Head of Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, the incumbent will be provided with close mentoring, guidance and technical supervision. Performance planning and reviews, as well as learning and development discussions, will be an elemental part of the supervision.
  2. Throughout their assignment, WFP interns have access to an industry-leading learning platform, weLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.
  3. The PD intern will be paid a monthly stipend of approximately USD US$ 1,000 per month as a contribution to basic subsistence costs.
  4. WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas, and related costs.
  5. WFP will reimburse travel tickets for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
