UN Volunteers platform is offering an online volunteer opportunity, as UN Office for Disarmament Affairs is looking for 4 qualified volunteers to help translate and proofreader documents from English to French.

To enhance communication between the UN Secretariat and Member States’ national focal points working on small arms-related issues, the Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) issues a bi-annual information bulletin. The bulletin is a compilation of news and stories on recent developments in UN meetings on illicit small arms. The translated version of the bulletin ensures greater inclusiveness and increased effectiveness of UNODA’s work. The Bulletin is being published in three languages: English, French and Spanish.

Volunteer duration and working hours:

6-10 hours per week for overall one week.

Eligibility criteria:

  • The online volunteers should have native speaker level of French with experience translating professional-level publications from English into French.
  • Academic background and/or work experience in international affairs, journalism or related fields is desirable and will be considered an asset.

Volunteer task:

  1. Volunteers will be paired in groups of two. Each volunteer will be tasked to translate one half of an approximately 7000-word document from English to French and proofread the other half, to ensure accuracy and consistency throughout the text.
  2. The document will consist of latest news, features and recent developments in UN meetings on illicit small arms.
  3. Communication with volunteers and submission of the final product will be done by email. Previous issues of the Information Bulletin can be found
    here.
