The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is offering a 3-year research fellowship program as PhD candidate at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. You will be responsible for optimizing the structural design of the wind turbine, providing drawings, models and other necessary data to project partners, undergoing structured PhD training (e.g. coursework), and developing new knowledge (e.g. about the design approach and the performance of the design) in a scientific way and publish the results in international peer-reviewed journals.

Responsibilities:

  • To develop a relevant design basis that documents all assumptions and the criteria and design rules to be used when designing the wind turbine
  • To optimize the structural design of the wind turbine
  • To provide drawings, models and other necessary data to project partners
  • To undergo structured PhD training (e.g. coursework)
  • To develop new knowledge (e.g. about the design approach and the performance of the design) in a scientific way and publish the results in international peer-reviewed journals
  • To contribute to dissemination activities (e.g. presenting at international conferences, preparing technical reports, writing scientific papers)
  • To contribute to communication activities (e.g. project news in social media)

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You have completed a master’s degree with a strong academic background in structural engineering, wind energy engineering, offshore engineering, aerodynamic engineering
  • A background in a relevant engineering discipline (preferably offshore engineering, structural engineering or wind energy engineering)
  • A professional and scientific mindset 
  • Basic skills in one or more programming languages (e.g. Python, Matlab, or similar)
  • Work experience in industry
  • Interest in wind energy
  • Knowledge of (structural or design) optimization
  • Excellent written and oral English language skills
  • You should be enthusiastic and highly motivated
  • You should have the ability to work independently, but also with other researchers in a team
  • You need to take responsibility for your own work
  • You must be able to work with fixed deadlines

Salary:

  • PhD candidates are remunerated in code 1017, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 479 600 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
  • The period of employment is 3 years.

  • The application and supporting documentation to be used as the basis for the assessment must be in English.
  • The application must include:
  1. CV, certificates and diplomas
  2. Motivation letter
  3. Academic works - published or unpublished - that you would like to be considered in the assessment (e.g. master thesis and up to 2 scientific publications)
  4. Name and address of two referees
