Arij Foundation offers Arij Investigative Award recognizing outstanding work in the field of Investigative journalism in the Arab World.

About Arij Award:

This year marks the 10th ARIJ Annual Awards which honor journalists who take on official criticism, reluctant sources, and risk of retaliation to bring citizens information about corruption and injustice in their societies. The awards acknowledge the integrity and professionalism of these journalists. They set benchmarks for future generations to model. The awards are nonpartisan, independent of all factions, organizations, political parties, corporations, labor unions, religions or causes beyond investigative reporting itself. In short, ARIJ honors unfettered truth-telling.

Eligibility Criteria:

The awards competition is open to ARIJeans -those who have produced investigations in cooperation with ARIJ- and one category is open to all Arab journalists unaffiliated with the organization. Submissions must be in Arabic and should cover current affairs in the Arab World. Entries will be judged on their content, creativity, and impact and all works must have been published or aired between Oct. 30, 2018, and Oct. 15, 2019.

The Competition Categories:

Best multimedia piece
Best television piece longer than 15 minutes
Best television piece category 7-15 minutes
A best multimedia investigative piece in the Arab world (open to ARIJ and non-ARIJ journalists)

Judging Criteria:

Entries will be judged based on:

Originality and relevance
Clarity of hypothesis
Research and sourcing
Risk calculation
Structure and storytelling
Data presentation and visual treatment
Law and ethics
Use of language
Accuracy, balance, clarity (ABC)
A personal and professional initiative taken

Award:

Finalists in four categories will be presented honorary plaques and prizes at the Gala dinner Nov. 24, 2019, in front of the award-winning journalists, distinguished leaders in the field, and representatives of investigative organizations from around the world gathered at the ARIJ Annual Forum, Jordan.
