WHO offers a job opportunity in Jordan to work as an information management officer. The overall objective of the polio eradication initiative is to lead the global eradication partnership to interrupt the transmission of poliovirus worldwide, certify eradication, and eventually, stop the use of oral poliovirus vaccine and mainstream the polio eradication infrastructure and functions within the public health systems of the member states.

Eligibility:

You must have:

  • University degree in science, mathematics, statistics, IT or relevant subject.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in health data management and database administration in industry and/or large public sector or university/academic research projects; with specific experience in providing analysis and reports for decision support.
  • Knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and approaches relevant to the management of information in complex emergencies and outbreak response. 
  • Ability to identify issues, analyse health data and trends and participate in the resolution of issues/problems.
  • Ability to conduct data collection and analysis using various methods.
  • Conceptual analytical and evaluative skills to conduct independent research and analysis, including familiarity with and experience in the use of various research sources, including electronic sources on the internet and other databases.
  • Ability to apply judgment in the context of assignments given, plan own work and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results.
  • Shows persistence when faced with difficult problems or challenges.
  • Takes responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives and ensuring the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work.
  • Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies.
  • Teamwork and respecting and promoting individual and cultural differences.

It's preferred to have:

  • Specialized training in supporting public health activities.
  • Experience in the Eastern Mediterranean region and/or with UN and/or international organization as well as with polio eradication program data analysis and management.
  • Intermediate knowledge of French and Arabic.

Your Responsibilities:

You will be responsible of:

  1. Provide technical support for surveillance data management, including the definition, development and deployment of the necessary data collection and validation processes, systems and tools.
  2. Maintain the AFP surveillance data management system and provide training and facilitation to build/strengthen capacity of country staff with regard to usage of the system.
  3. Support assessment design to ensure data quality.
  4. Manage platforms and tools that support mobile data collection and analysis such as KoBo Toolbox and Open Data Kit (ODK).
  5. Synthesize data response to various requests for information about PEI program operations; help define data governance protocols.
  6. Orient subject matter expertise to system development efforts.
  7. Produce and update information products such as reports, charts and infographics by turning data into graphical products to convey messages and a storyline; promotional materials.
  8. Implement data governance and quality related activities.
  9. Performs other related duties, as required.

Salary:

  • WHO salaries for staff in the professional category are calculated in US dollars. 
  • The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at 60,962 USD (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to 2266 USD per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
